DIESEL FOSCARINI - METAL GLASS

Born from a union between the centuries-old blown glass tradition and the industrial appeal of metal, there is something of the alchemist’s still or a lantern in a Gothic novel about Metal Glass. It is as magical in its shape as it is in its lighting effect with a dense and almost opaque transparency achieved by provoking a chemical reaction in its still-incandescent vitreous paste. This creates a myriad of bubbles, called “puleghe” in Venetian dialect, which is the origin of this quasi-magical material's name, “vetro pulegoso”. When the lamp is switched on these “puleghe” are transformed into luminous particles which contrast with a white light shining inside its central cylinder. Metal Glass is available in four vintage-inspired colours and two versions, suspension or table.

DESCRIPTION

Table and floor lamp with diffused light. Diffuser made of hand-blown triple-layer glass, the glass is rendered almost matt by the presence of countless air bubbles inside it "vetro pulegoso”, The irregular air bubbles are achieved by pouring a substance that triggers this reaction into the molten paste. In the green version, the glass undergoes a colouring process with external painting. A borosilicate glass cylinder acts as a diffuser for the light cast by the light bulb and becomes the decorative element in the volume of the diffuser glass. The steel base undergoes several acid-etching processes and subsequently coated with transparent liquid paint; electrical cable and dimmer both black. A washer with the Diesel log in satin finish aluminium decorates the electrical cable outlet on the base.
